NEER Roanie/MA...

Roanie had a brief encounter with a very poor match in MA, but has since gone back to NH to Abenaki Farm where he has been adopted by the perfect girl!  He is continuing his training and trail rides and is happy as pig in poo!   He is friends again with Jiggs, who is also continuing his training and doing extremely awesomely (sic).  An update from Lori at Abenaki Farm:

"Great news!  Last weekend Cheryl officially adopted Roanie and brought him back to Abenaki to stay!  We are all so happy to see him back!  After his status changed in Massachusetts, Cheryl said she just couldn't let him go twice.  She missed him desperately.  So she contacted Mary at NEER, filled out the application and after the full approval process, was approved and given the thumbs up to adopt him!  Already, Cheryl and Roanie have been polishing up his ground work and manners, and have kicked butt in jump night!!  He has settled right back into the herd and even rekindled his friendship with Jiggs.  That had to be one of the most heartwarming reuinions!  They were truley happy to see each other!  And we think WE form bonds!  So, congratulations to both Cheryl and Roanie for finding each other and beginning their life long partnership!"

Thank you to Ellen for keeping Roanie safe and doing so much in a rather unpleasant situation!   Ellen is looking for a boarder, we highly recommend her, if you need a stall in a nice West Newbury barn, please call...978-363-1170.

Thank you to Lori for recognizing the right fit and taking him back to Abenaki, and for being such a GREAT foster/supporter of NEER!

And thank you Mary!!  ...for rebounding yet again from continued abuse by the crazies!  ;)

'08 Jilco...

Did I tell you guys that my NEER foster horse, Standardbred mare, Winning Jilco is in her new home?  Adoption pending.   She will be trained by Ron Levesque.  Ron came here to work with me, my young Quarter Horse filly and Jilco.  He really liked Jilco and spread the word about her. I had two people apply to adopt her that same day !!!   Huge thanks to Ron L and his crew!!!!  I would like to say thank you to Renate for the hay donation, Nancy for putting Jilco on her face book,  Julie for always being willing to help a horse, and Ginger and John for taking great care of Jilco for an entire year.  I also need to say thanks for the folks who rode shot gun with me as I trailered her from one place to another......that would be Kris, Barb and Lisa who bravely rode in the passenger seat during all of these Jilco based adventures!!!!  While Jilco was with me this summer and early fall, she stayed at John Dixon's empty barn and lived a life of luxury with nice pasture and a wonderful, clean dry barn.   John also did morning feeding and chores which made my life SO much easier.   Thanks John !!!!  It is also important to note that New England Equine Rescue (Beth and Mary) made it possible for us to protect this mare under a rescue umbrella.  Thank you Beth and Mary!  A happy ending for Jilco !   And a happy beginning at the same time!!!

Thanks everybody for coming together for this mare.

Sheza Royal Legacy aka “Lacy” ~ Registered AQHA mare ~ Foaled 5/11/98

I would like you to know that Jessica came down today, and signed Lacy's papers over to me. My husband and I are very happy with her, and from what I understand, Jessica had quite a few inquiries about her through you, and other contacts. If you'd like to move her to the placed/update page, that would be great!  Please let people know that taking on a "rescue" or an "available" horse has been a great experience. After about a week of learning what we expect of her, Lacy settled in very well, and we have been doing ring work, and only a little trail riding so far (due to the terrible fly conditions). It has taken a little time to get her back into shape, but she has been very well behaved. Handling and grooming her has been a dream, she is a very friendly mare. Everything Jessica stated about her is correct, which I feel is very important when placing a horse, so there are no surprises.  I also cannot stress enough the fact that people need to provide numerous references. Jessica called my vet, feed provider, blacksmith, and 2 of my 5 horse friend references, and after speaking to several people, it was apparent that our farm was a good home. A good adopter should have no problem being screened THOROUGHLY.

Sincerely, Suzanne~ CT

'Captain Crunch', saved with the help of people... everywhere!  Was at a University vet clinic, participating in a study about gelding older horses... skinny,  pneumonia, and looked pretty sad, but he wouldn't for long.  With his new Dutch Boy hairdo, he was ready to FACE the world!!!... almost.

"I saw the two little ones at Live & Let Live today.  They are doing very well and VERY beautiful.
I LOVE the mare!!!!  Absolutely love her.   They got their feet trimmed today and did very well.

boy... he's so cute!  He is going to still have that adorable cute look when he grows up. " ~

A cast-away mare delivers a gift of hope

July 7, 8:21 AM

Bella, the once-condemned Belgian mare

Colleen Corrice scurried around her picturesque Oakham, MA farm early on the morning of June 10th, needing to make sure that all of her horses were fed and their stalls cleaned before she headed out to work.  As they munched contentedly on their hay, Colleen stole a quick glance at the Belgian mare, Bella, the newcomer in the group.  Last October, Bella had been snatched from a barn that is part of what could be called Maine's "underground railroad," a network of auction houses where horses wait in the shadows until there are enough of them to fill a truck, to make the run up to a slaughterhouse in Quebec.  Before arriving at the "straight-to-slaughter" auction, Bella had lived most of her life little touched by human hands, relegated to foraging in a field with a stallion but without shelter or blankets or hoof or dental care.  Her halter hadn't been removed for so long that it was stuck to the side of her face.  Year after year, she'd been nothing but a foal factory, churning out baby after baby who, like her, seemed destined for a life of neglect.  Volunteers at New England Equine Rescues got wind of Bella's precarious situation, and pulled her, the stallion, and two of their progeny out of harm's way, and then scrambled to find a place to put them.  Susan Sheridan of Bay State Equine Rescue in Oakham heard about the hapless horses and said she'd take Bella, even though the seams of her stable were bursting, too.  That's when Colleen stepped in to invite the large skittish mare to live at her "Dream Big Farm," where she would soon learn what it feels like to be treated like equine royalty.  In the intervening months, Colleen noticed that Bella's belly had begun to swell, though whether that was just a result of good care and nourishing food, she wasn't quite sure.  And so, as she left to go to her office on that June morning, she never suspected that her world was about to change forever.  Some hours later, neighbors passing by the farm saw something that initially alarmed them.  Bella was lying on the ground, and there was a big white mass flooding out of her hind end.  When the passersby stopped to see what was happening, they couldn't believe their eyes.  Bella was giving birth, right in the middle of the paddock, while Jack the Clydesdale kept watch!  Colleen rushed home, and by the time she got there, Bella's big baby girl was nursing and cavorting around.  The once-forgotten mare who had been been sentenced to a brutal death had been carrying a big secret.  From her life of neglect was born a miracle, a filly who is learning that people are to be trusted, rather than feared.  Colleen has named her, "Blanca."

Misty
has finally found a home!
(:

One of those husbands who sneak out to the horses when they think you're not looking!

Misty’s Story

Misty is a beautiful TB mare who raced as a youngster and did quite well.  She then retired to the breeder's farm and became a broodmare for the next 10+ years.  She was not ridden and didn't have a back up career.  When they no longer had use for her they gave her away.  This is where Twin Lights Farm comes in.  We took her and her pasture mate, another older TB broodmare, in.  The pasture mate was no longer breed-able and was placed in a good home and is now a beloved trail horse.  This was also the plan for Misty.

She left Twin Lights Farm in May of 2007 on her way to what we thought was to be a new life of being a riding horse for a teenager in need of a horse.  There was never any feedback from the people who took Misty.

On July 29, 2007, we received an e-mail from a stranger stating that they had seen Misty listed on a web site of horses at risk of going to slaughter (  http://www.ac4h.com/brokerownedhorses.htm ).

Misty was bought/rescued by NEER, and is now safely home again with Mary.  She has been adopted out to a good home, with a contract.

Misty at the Charles River Dressage Association Clinic November 8th 2008:

Rider: Lisa Millett

Misty, adopted by Sally, at a Hunter Pace, October 2008...

"This was our first attempt for a hunter pace, although we've been trail-riding alot.  We (our team of four from the barn) chose the slowest of the three paces.  Each pace had an ideal time, unknown to us, for how long the ride should take and whoever was the closest to the time was the winner.  Misty was the leader/pacesetter for our team.  She's very bold and moves right out.  The ride was almost two hours through fields, up, down & around the mountain, rocks, bridges, streams, mud, & jumps.  For as many horses that were there, the 2nd place finish was quite a happy surprise.  If we do it again, I'd like to opt for the faster pace; she would have been perfectly happy to have gone a quicker clip!  She wasn't winded in the least.  She's just amazing."

Blaze belonged to a girl who let her farrier 'use' him, but when Blaze didn't work out, the farrier threw him out in the herd where he lost a lot of weight and was beat up, then gave him to another girl who treated him nicely and fed him, but she could not afford him...Blaze was pending a trip to New Holland.  Old horses RARELY do well at New Holland.  ):  The FOBs raised enough $ to send Blaze to NH.

He is having a swell time...

Solar and Sunny, the shrimpy Belgian and little Haflinger mare...

Sunny has been adopted by Monica and Shirley.  Solar was euthanized... he had given his all, was not treated well, and was in pain.  The vet and farrier felt that the best thing that we could do for him was to let him go.  He spent his final days eating and died with a mouthful of grain... he is at peace.  ):

Spring '08 ... Should be The Lucky Buckless Bucker

Spookless, and not caring that his pal is calling.
Thank you Cheryl and Emily, for doing such an awesome job!

Fall '08...

West Newbury MA is home to a very special rescue horse - "Gus the Lucky Buck-less Bucker"

"His scars and broken face make it painfully obvious he endured years of abuse. The running  style brand on his shoulder suggests a stint with a rodeo outfit.. No one will ever know for sure. All we really know is that he sat in a broker pen in PA. They said he was a bucking horse and that they were fattening him up for slaughter. He was expressionless and homely but he taught the eye of Christy Sheidy president of Another Chance for Horses, who call Beth Hill- Ross, President of New Equine Rescues. Beth is known for being a champion for an underdog. The pictures of Gus touched her heart. Funds were raised on the Alex Brown acing Internet forum by the fans of Barbaro along with members of NEER and AC4H. His meat price was raised and through NEER he was shipped to Maine for quarantine and rehab. Gus was tended to,cared for, and treated kindly - something he was unaccustomed too and not sure how to respond to but eventually th e fosters daughter Emily, a teenager, broke through and a connection was made. She braved getting on his back and he didn't buck. She trail rode him and we was a good boy. When he was healthy Gus was put up for adoption. A stable in NH wanted to try him as a potential lesson horse. Gus did not like the hustle and bustle of the lesson stable and he couldn't be cross-tied - he panicked and broke them. We think he was afraid he would be left or beaten. A teen at the barn had taken a shine to Gus, Megan Mitchell of West Newbury, Ma. Megan has horses of her own but wanted to help Gus. Gus is enjoying a quiet life in a beautiful back yard barn with a large grass filled pasture. Megan has been taking Gus on trail rides down the street and through the trails in her neighborhood He has been great. Gus likes his new girl and she likes him. Welcome to West Newbury Gus the Lucky Buck-less Bucker ! May the rest of your years be filled with happiness and peace."      Mary D. Martin - MA Rep/Director NEER

Things didn't work out so Gus then moved to Ellen's in W Newbury...

Spring '09

Gus gained all of his weight back and recovered from a bad case of scratches.  ):   He then went to a new foster in '09 and has been with her since, she loves him!  Thank you Lori.

Here is Emily with him - He was very proud of her when she told him about the rescue horses she helped. He signed the picture of Her hugging Tuffy  :)

Aug '08...

Heavey Harvey was a very skinny older horse with BAD heaves, a cancerous eye, and various other ailments...his owner was good enough to dump him at a broker lot.   ):  Frank held him and fed him while the FOBs raised $550 to pull him, have him evaluated by a vet, and euthanize him if needed..

Heavey Harvey spent his last days eating whatever he wanted under the kind eye of Lisa at Helping Hearts... www.Freewebs.com/hher

MAC -
This gorgeous hunk of Belgian draft is 18H - 12 Years Old - Will be placed as a riding only horse.  Great to ride, a bit shy but well mannered.  Stands well for his front feet but havent pushed him just yet with his hinds.  He is a super nice horse with loads of promise.  He is good to lead, stands tied, loads great in an open stock but not so great in a smaller half door.  Stands well for vet also.  Head guy in the field but only because of size, not domination.  Hes a bargain at a fee of $1500. Macs fee has been REDUCED to $700  Mac will go with a LIFETIME safety contract as we want to protect his interests.

Mario Hilario, now in RI, and named for the famous channel 10 newscaster (see below), is doing great.
He is learning that not ALL people want to just use him, and that snacks are tasty.  He is VERY fearful,
so we are working on that first.  Stay tuned...

Unfortunately, Mario Hilario did not find Mike the Farrier to be cool enough, and therefore his feet
remain undone.   Mike is CRUSHED!  ):

Mario Hilario, the Coolio Mulio... !

Thank you NEER, Debbie Marston, KiMMiPanTs, Lynn, Rick of Royer Labs in CA,
and Ellen... for donations to get Mario to safety.

And thank you Save Your Ass...donation in memory of Evangeline.

Mario Hilario: Mario Hilario has anchored News Channel 10 Weekend Sunrise since 1997. More Details

Mario Hilario is really doing great.  He is not as manic about escaping a beating every time I even look his
way...he is now more relaxed; the muscles in his under neck are starting to shrink a bit after a month of not
trying to stuff his head into the clouds, to keep it safe from a bashing.  ):

He has had his shots, and his front feet are now much better...Mike plans to do more in a couple of
weeks, but they look good... more than an inch came off!  Mike wouldn't even venture to guess how
long it had been since his last trim.  They were so long that the heals had curled in, making it
impossible to either see or really get at the interior.  Weird.

Teeth are DONE!!  (:   ...without incident.

His eye has softened, he has relaxed...I need to get a pic of his hairy eyeball...one eye,
one ear...head cocked and watching you from the highest place attainable!!

Thank you ANGELS!

July '08..all FOUR feet are finally done...much coaxing, snacks, a little Ace, and patience.
And Mario has just sprouted dapples!  A great sign. (:  He's hanging with the big boys, in
my face when it's time to eat, and just hanging.  His ears spend a lot more time forward
now....he's a great old guy.

Feb '09...I can now walk past Mario without him scurrying to get out of my way, and last
week, I reached out and patted him as I walked by... for the 1st time, he didn't freak.

March '09... MH can now be blanketed in the paddock, no need to trap him in a stall first.  (:

Peneliope has been placed with a nice lady in PA.

The NOT pregnant Haflinger mare, rescued by Tank the Percheron, the FOBs, and NEER.

The HafMare has been placed with Ella in NH, and has been through professional training , she is doing great.

Update Oct '08:

Hey Beth,
Just wanted to drop a line and let you know...my trainer, Kamrie, had Greta last month for 30 days of training....she got there fearful, always wondering if she would get hit, or something....she wasn't cuddly or wanting to be with you....if you came up to her, she would let you pat her, but when she was done, she walked away.....now...she pretty much comes on a whistle like a puppy dog...she stands there for you to love and rub her all over...now for the riding part....nice layed back trail horse....but will move out if you ask.  She goes out alone or with others....she's a new horse....When Kamrie first started working with her, she took down the round pen and went to run back to her paddock where she was safe....Kamrie said someone was really rough with this girl....now, Greta knows she's okay....that no one is going to hurt her.  I told Ella if anything happened and she couldn't keep her...Keep her old mom in mind!!  But Ella is not letting her go for anything in the world....you couldn't wipe that smile off her face if you tried!!

gem. I would love to have more of these little guys. He leads like a charm. Is
like a puppy- loves attention and my horses watch over him.

It is with a sad heart that I tell you guys that Neyshar didnt make it. The vet did an exam and listened to his heart and lungs. He was in complete organ shut down and urinating brown. He was shocking and his gums were white. The vet said he was so emaciated that you could see his neck vertabre...and he had absolutely nothing in reserves to pull him thru even if we could get him up and he had a chance. Im so sorry everyone! It doesnt make it any better knowing that we worked so hard to save him...its just knowing we couldnt succeed! I will now focus my efforts on the other 4 who need us. They are all dolls and really well behaved. The Clyde is a bit hard to catch but Im sure once he realizes I drive the feedwagon he will be more accepting to me!

Thank you all so much for all the well wishes, support and funds you so generously provide not only to my rescue but all the rest on this board. I can say as a rescuer, we are very lucky to have such a supportive group of wonderful, caring individuals and Im so proud to be part of your FOB family!

Wild Bill
Draft Horse Fostered from
NEER

I am a member of New England Equine Rescues and have been for a few years.  Beth of NEER told us that her local farm had an older Belgian gelding who was now alone because both of his mares had died of old age, and that they had contacted her, looking to place him.   Beth asked if we would have interest in taking Bill in. We had lost our beloved draft, Jim, a couple of years before. We so loved & missed Jim. I wanted to help a draft in need. I knew my husband Dan would just die to have another draft in his life. I showed him his picture... of course he said what's wrong with him & how old is he.  I have to admit that I lied... I told Dan he was 18, but Beth had said he was 20. I don't think there is much of a difference in 18 or 20, but it sounded better to Dan.

Bill arrived... Thanks to Bonnie of Derry, NH, that went to Beth's to pick him up and drove all the way back up here to Pike, NH. Bill loves having so many other horse buddies. Dan ground drives him from time to time, but has not hitched to the cart.  He even rode him down the road & back.

We are proud to have Bill and are very happy that we were able to give him a forever home. Our local paper has printed this picture and another of Bill. He's famous now in these here parts...

The picture says it all.

3 pulled from the kill pen.  November 06...

Before...

McDoogle...not too young, not too old... just 12.  Very sweet!!  18H, lots of personality.  Said to ride and drive, he has gone to live with Laurel, at the same farm as Bingham.  (:

After...

Daisy, also very sweet, short and beefy!  One eye is a little funny, but it does seem that she can see out of it.  3 years old.  Not broke, and not good with her feet. Daisy has gone to Elaine's farm to be fostered.  She loaded like a champ, and we hope she will learn to pick her feet up a little better while in Elaine's care.  Elaine will be adopting...  (:

After...

Bingham , Placed with Joy of IRIE (therapeutic).  (:  ...two and 1/2, handleable and sweet...  (:  He does have an ankle injury, we are hoping it is not too serious....and a parrot mouth, but it doesn't seem to effect him.  Bingham is doing very well, getting along with everybody, and learning some good new things.

Before...

After...

www.iriehorses.org ...Bing joined IRIE on December 19, 2006. He was a young boy, under the age of 2. He was rescued by New England Equine Rescues from a kill pen in NY. He is a sweet horse. He is a tri colored paint, and will probably be big. Bingham is named in memory of and in honor of Mark Bingham, one of the heroes of United Flight 93.

Belle and Joe, two of the Plasma Belgians...

Belle, in CT with her knee lickers.  (:

And Joe, now in CT...

We were sorry to have to euthanize the Belgian mare, saved by AC4H and the FOBs...  ):  Her suspensory ligaments were too far gone, likely genetic.  We were advised by two farriers and Addy's vet that the kindest thing would be to put her down.  That it would cost a lot of money to try to fix her and that there were no guarantees.

Thank you Addie for fostering her, and everybody for helping this mare to go without fear and agony.

(*Regardless of what some might say, this mare was not euthanized because she was not rideable or breedable.)

Earless June '06...

The 2 y/o pony 'mare' who managed to NOT go on the truck to slaughter FIVE times!!  We raised her $345. fee, and pulled her... (:  Thank you EarLESS Fund people!

As soon as she got off the trailer, it was discovered that 'she' was a he!!  He is a very sweet boy, young, QH?, and only a pony yet (in the 14H range).  He would be a great pet, great around kids, and is said to be easy to work with.

His new name is... "A Boy Destined For Glory...Van Go"  (:     ...But 'Earless' kind of sticks.

Update January '07...

Unfortunately Earless had a sarcoid,  romoved on the 12th.

Earless, now 'Copper' is now living with Nancy in NY, and is doing great!

Very tragically, Copper seemed to snap in January '09.  He went after 3 goats that he had been living with for almost 2 years.   He killed one, and badly hurt the other two.  Copper also went after a 450 lb ram, and Nancy herself.  He was euthanized.  ):

Nancy had big plans for Copper, training was to begin in March, she had hoped that he would be a barrel racer... he is missed terribly.

This poor mare was standing in a round pen full of mud with only moldy hay to eat with the owner threatening to sell her directly to the meat man.  She was under weight, and suffering terribly from CPL...

See her when we (Bonnie/Barbara/Beth) first rescued her:  http://www.freewebs.com/hunterhollow/clydesdalemare.htm

After being advised by Dr Gregory Ferraro at UCDavis (http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/elephantitis/research.html) to euthanize, we instead surrendered her to USERL...

 Kind of skinny.  ):

Summer '07...

Marich, from the plasma farm.

Before...

After...

Marich was euthanized after a year of trying to get him comfortable, his lameness and CPL were beyond repair. He is missed. ):

Beatrix the Molly Mule was pulled from the kill pen...

She is VERY sweet.  She drives, but does not quite understand the concept of riding. Karen, and Lynn, LOVE her!!  (:

After with Sue...

Shorty (Mr Swayback) is a 14.2h, 23 yr. old Morgan gelding. We adopted him from New England Equine Rescues. Shorty placed well in the Morgan show circuit in his glory days, but when his Lordosis (an excessive inward curvature of the spine) became too pronounced, he was also "no longer needed" by his previous owners. He was on the way to the slaughter house until he was rescued by NEER. Now, even though he is the smallest of the 4 horses residing at Drafty Pines Farm, he thinks he's just as big as the other boys.  Although Shorty's back looks unusual, he gets frequent vet checks and is not in any pain while under saddle. Shorty is reserved for those riders weighing 130 lbs and under due to his condition.

I happened to be talking to Courtney Lawrence tonight at the Windham County Farm Bureau dinner and we somehow got on the subject of her work with rescued horses.  She was telling me about "Mr. Swayback" aka "Shorty" and I had chills up my spine.  I haven't had the chance to tell her and I don't have her email but I did own him.  The history on the site and your website is heartbreaking and not all true, at all.  His registered name is Capt Americal Callin, he was named Captain.  I bought him as a coming 6 year old to be a lightly used lesson horse in 1993, he is actually 22 this year, not 23.  I already had a morgan on the farm being boarded that was called Captain, so I renamed him "Barney", because I already had a Fred, Pebbles and Bam-Bam, can you see the theme?  :)  I owned him until March of 1997 and only sold him because he would bond with only a couple of kids and I couldn't see making him unhappy.  I had a young boy showing him W/T western and he did leadline classes too, I have pictures from the shows.  He was shown at 1 or 2 Morgan shows as a youngster (with original owner) but was born with that back, it did not get progressively worse (I have photos).  He was shown in a futurity in In-Hand and Driving and was entered before birth, so needless to say they were heartbroken to see him born with a back so badly swayed.  He was loved also by the girl that I had bought him from.  I had leased him to a wonderful girl and she just played with him and rode him all around her yard and family circumstances forced the end of her lease.  I very reluctantly sold him to what was supposed to be a wonderful home in North Stonington, for a little boy's first horse.  He was going to do leadline with him and eventually progress to walk-trot but I never heard from her after the first month and have always wondered where he went to.  I am going to email the link to the young lady that leased him from me, she is now a very proud cadet at the Naval Academy.

He was well loved here and he was not sold because anyone tired of him or as his back got worse,  all my pictures look the same as it is now.  I would like to come see him when things slow down after Equine Affaire.  I operated my farm in Putnam then, when I was married but you are welcome to look at my website now, I have been back in Woodstock (my home town) since 1999.  www.cherryledgefarm.com
Thank you for taking great care of him and he deserves nothing less...
Have a great weekend,
Karen

stallion.  She lived with Sharon in CT for a while, but
now lives with Sarah, permanently...we hope!!  (:
Thanks Sarah.

Annie... was standing in a pen at a local auction house, not
likely to go anywhere but to the killer.  She was obviously
foundered, very lame, and stocked up.  Annie was
saved by Barbara, is doing much better and will
be Barbara's new trail riding pony.  Annie was our first
'Raffle' success!  Update:  Annie is not sound enough to
be a riding horse, she has gone to live with two young
girls who love her and just hang on her.

ShaLINC... spotted at the local auction house, was clearly
not going anywhere happy.  Stiff as a board, with green
snot, a cough, bones everywhere, and rumored to be old
as DIRT! .  She is now in NY (only Candy knows where)
...
2nd raffle success.

Johnny One Socks... also pulled from the local auction house.

The Belgian and injured pony mare... have gone to MA.

Bill, the Belgian had to be euthanized for colic, he was very
old, and the neighbor thought she was helping by throwing
apples into the paddock.  ):  The mare was donated to the
MSPCA to have her hip fixed, two bone chips were inside
causing constant infection.

Chester...off the streets of Boston, now in ME...and happy!
Thanks Michelle!  .

Petey...gone to Maine to gain a lot of weight and be happy.
Thanks Melissa!  Update:  Petey spent his final days with
Melissa eating as much as she could stuff into him, but his

in the RI home of Sue, and still doing very well.  Thanks Sue!

Marich ...bought for $100 from a plasma farm.  Old,

feet and legs were insurmountable.   ):  He is missed!!

properly causing him terrible diarrhea.  He is now in his absolute
glory living with Bonnie in NY.  Thanks Bonnie!

Beatrix was pulled from the kill pen, and has gone
to live with Karen in CT, she is living the good life!

Earless, the little one eared chestnut mare, managed to hide, in the
kill pen, from the truck going to slaughter... FOUR times.  We heard
about her, raised the money for her, and then held our collective
breath until we knew whether or not she had successfully hidden a fifth
time!  Indeed, she had.  (:  It turns out that she is a HE (we do that
a lot!), and she has only half of one ear ( it seems the other one and a
half were likely lost in a barbed wire incident, there are other scars).
His new name  "A Boy destined For Glory...Van-Go!" is his 'show name',
we're sticking with Earless as his nick name.  (:  He is a pony, very
sweet and barely two.  Earless has been adopted by Nancy in NY, he
is learning to behave himself nicely.  Update: Earless snapped,
became very aggressive and had to be euthanized. ):

The Little Red Mare, we missed. She went to slaughter.  ):  But we
started a fund that raised $600.  Thanks to everybody who donated!!

has gone to USERL in Indiana for proper care.

The horses parade 'round the track

 Prancing and bucking and rearing
because they know race time is nearing.
The horses line up at the gate

My favorite was the big black...
