Mario Hilario, now in RI, and named for the famous channel 10 newscaster (see below), is doing great.
He is learning that not ALL people want to just use him, and that snacks are tasty.  He is VERY fearful,
so we are working on that first.  Stay tuned...

Unfortunately, Mario Hilario did not find Mike the Farrier to be cool enough, and therefore his feet
remain undone.   Mike is CRUSHED!  ):

Mario Hilario, the Coolio Mulio... !

Thank you Debbie Marston, KiMMiPanTs, Rick of Royer Labs in CA, and Ellen... for donations
to get Mario to safety.

It is with a sad heart that I tell you guys that Neyshar didnt make it. The vet did an exam and listened to his heart and lungs. He was in complete organ shut down and urinating brown. He was shocking and his gums were white. The vet said he was so emaciated that you could see his neck vertabre...and he had absolutely nothing in reserves to pull him thru even if we could get him up and he had a chance. Im so sorry everyone! It doesnt make it any better knowing that we worked so hard to save him...its just knowing we couldnt succeed! I will now focus my efforts on the other 4 who need us. They are all dolls and really well behaved. The Clyde is a bit hard to catch but Im sure once he realizes I drive the feedwagon he will be more accepting to me!

Thank you all so much for all the well wishes, support and funds you so generously provide not only to my rescue but all the rest on this board. I can say as a rescuer, we are very lucky to have such a supportive group of wonderful, caring individuals and Im so proud to be part of your FOB family!

Adoption Story

Wild Bill
Draft Horse Fostered from
NEER

I am a member of New England Equine Rescues and have been for a few years.  Beth of NEER told us that her local farm had an older Belgian gelding who was now alone because both of his mares had died of old age, and that they had contacted her, looking to place him.   Beth asked if we would have interest in taking Bill in. We had lost our beloved draft, Jim, a couple of years before. We so loved & missed Jim. I wanted to help a draft in need. I knew my husband Dan would just die to have another draft in his life. I showed him his picture... of course he said what's wrong with him & how old is he.  I have to admit that I lied... I told Dan he was 18, but Beth had said he was 20. I don't think there is much of a difference in 18 or 20, but it sounded better to Dan.

Bill arrived... Thanks to Bonnie of Derry, NH, that went to Beth's to pick him up and drove all the way back up here to Pike, NH. Bill loves having so many other horse buddies. Dan ground drives him from time to time, but has not hitched to the cart.  He even rode him down the road & back.

We are proud to have Bill and are very happy that we were able to give him a forever home. Our local paper has printed this picture and another of Bill. He's famous now in these here parts...

The picture says it all.

Two big drafts saved from slaughter January '07...

The BIG Mr, fostered by Kim.

With his matching girlfriend Maisy...

 Thank you Friends Of Barbaro.

Thank you AC4H.

3 pulled from the kill pen.  November 06...

Before...

McDoogle...not too young, not too old... just 12.  Very sweet!!  18H, lots of personality.  Said to ride and drive, he has gone to live with Laurel, at the same farm as Bingham.  (:

After...

Daisy, also very sweet, short and beefy!  One eye is a little funny, but it does seem that she can see out of it.  3 years old.  Not broke, and not good with her feet. Daisy has gone to Elaine's farm to be fostered.  She loaded like a champ, and we hope she will learn to pick her feet up a little better while in Elaine's care.  Elaine will be adopting...  (:

After...

Bingham , Placed with Joy of IRIE.  (:  ...two and 1/2, handleable and sweet...  (:  He does have an ankle injury, we are hoping it is not too serious....and a parrot mouth, but it doesn't seem to effect him.  Bingham is doing very well, getting along with everybody, and learning some good new things.

Before...

After...

Belle and Joe, two of the Plasma Belgians...

Belle, in CT with her knee lickers.  (:

And Joe in MA...

We were sorry to have to euthanize the Belgian mare, saved by AC4H
and the FOBs...  ):  Her suspensory ligaments were too far gone, likely
genetic.  We were advised by two farriers and Addy's vet that the kindest
thing would be to put her down.  That it would cost a lot of money to even try to fix
her and there
were no guarantees. ):

Thank you Addie for fostering her, and everybody for helping this mare to go
without fear and agony!!

):

Earless June '06...

The 2 y/o pony 'mare' who managed to NOT go on the truck to slaughter FIVE times!!  We raised her $345. fee, and pulled her... (:  Thank you EarLESS Fund people!!!

As soon as she got off the trailer, it was discovered that 'she' was a he!!  He is a very sweet boy, young, QH?, and only a pony yet (in the 14H range).  He would be a great pet, great around kids, and is said to be easy to work with.

His new name is... "A Boy Destined For Glory...Van Go"  (:     ...But 'Earless' kind of sticks.

Update January '07...

Unfortunately Earless had a sarcoid,  romoved on the 12th...

Earless, now 'Copper' is now living with Nancy in NY, and is doing great!

This poor mare was standing in a round pen full of mud with only moldy hay to eat, the owner threatening to sell her directly to the meat man.  She was under weight, and suffering terribly from CPL...

http://www.completerider.com/pasterndermatitis.htm )

Gone to USERL in Indiana, she was tranqed and trimmed bald....it took 2 hours, 2 clippers and 3 blades!...

Their link www.userl.org

Here she is, 450 lbs heavier...and her legs are MUCH better still...

Marich, from the plasma farm.

Before...

After...

Marich was euthanized after a year of trying to get him comfortable, his lameness and CPL were beyond repair. He is missed. ):

Beatrix the Molly Mule was pulled from the kill pen...

Adopted by Karen in CT.  (:

Before...

She is VERY sweet.  She drives, but does not quite understand the concept of riding. Karen, and Lynn, LOVE her!!  (:

After...

Adopted... 'Sarah' was in the chute

to get on the truck, to go to slaughter!  ):

Sarah now lives in WV with DEE and Rich...

Also pulled from the kill pen...

Two muley thangs...

Toby and Molly

(:

Danny Boy before...

After...

UPDATE:

Mr. Swayback is now at a nice lesson barn, we hope
this will be his last stop!!  Thanks Courtnay!

Mr. Lame developed some kind of esophageal blockage
(MORE THAN JUST CHOKE)and had to be euthanized.
He died on a sunny spring
day with a mouthful of grain.

Dancer was slated to be euthanized for lameness issues,
but now lives with Judy in CT.  THANKS to
everybody who helped.

Zanzi was rescued, but then starved and put in with a
stallion.  She lived with Sharon in CT for a while, but
now lives with Sarah, permanently...we hope!!  (:
Thanks Sarah.

Annie was standing in a pen at a local auction house, not
likely to go anywhere but to the killer.  She was obviously
foundered, very lame, and stocked up.  Annie was
saved by Barbara, is doing much better and will
be Barbara's new trail riding pony.  Annie was our first
'Raffle' success!  Update:  Annie is not sound enough to
be a riding horse, she has gone to live with two young
girls who love her and just hang on her.

ShaLINC, spotted at the local auction house, was clearly
not going anywhere happy.  Stiff as a board, with green
snot, a cough, bones everywhere, and rumored to be old
as DIRT! .  She is now in NY (only Candy knows where)
...
2nd raffle success.

Johnny One Socks also pulled from the local auction house.

Spider Man could not be gotten to in time, he died at the
local auction house.  Sorry Spider Man!!  ):

The Belgian and injured pony mare have gone to MA.
to be restored to health and loved a lot...Thanks Elizabeth!
Bill, the Belgian had to be euthanized for colic, he was very
old, and the neighbor thought she was helping by throwing
apples into the paddock.  ):  The mare was donated to the
MSPCA to have her hip fixed, two bone chips were inside
causing constant infection.

Chester...off the streets of Boston, now in ME...and happy!
Thanks Michelle!  .

Petey...gone to Maine to gain a lot of weight and be happy.
Thanks Melissa!  Update:  Petey spent his final days with
Melissa eating as much as she could stuff into him, but his
'time' came and he was humanely euthanized.

Danny Boy, pulled by Sharon from the kill pen, is
in the RI home of Sue, and doing very well.  Thanks Sue!

Marich ...bought for $100 from a plasma farm.  Old,
covered in baked on mud, VERY lame, and 4 legs full
of CPL (scratches)... ):
...Marich
was euthanized after a year of eating as
much as he could.
His feet and legs were
insurmountable.   ):  He is sorely missed!!

Michelle's pony... 'Tally' pulled from the auction barn in MA,
she had a filly, Diva, a real character.  (:
Tally lives in CT and has made the local news by falling
down a well.  Diva is doing great.

Old Mrs. Odie...once a gelding, now a mare... (: ...also saved from a
miserable fate at the animal testing place.  Skinny, blind and
depressed... now happy and eating in somewhere in NY (only Candy knows) .

Belgian Mare...'Sarah', saved from the kill pen, gone to WV with DEE.
Thanks Dee!

Donkey Mules...saved from the kill pen, gone to Nim in MA to live
happily ever after.  Thanks Nim!

Chester has been repo-ed from a woman that was not feeding him
properly causing him terrible diarrhea.  He is now in his absolute
glory living with Bonnie in NY.  Thanks Bonnie!

Beatrix was pulled from the kill pen, and has gone
to live with Karen in CT, she is living the good life!

Earless, the little one eared chestnut mare, managed to hide, in the
kill pen, from the truck going to slaughter... FOUR times.  We heard
about her, raised the money for her, and then held our collective
breath until we knew whether or not she had successfully hidden a fifth
time!  Indeed, she had.  (:  It turns out that she is a HE (we do that
a lot!), and she has only half of one ear ( it seems the other one and a
half were likely lost in a barbed wire incident, there are other scars).
His new name  "A Boy destined For Glory...Van-Go!" is his 'show name',
we're sticking with Earless as his nick name.  (:  He is a pony, very
sweet and barely two.  Earless has been adopted by Nancy in NY, he
is learning to behave himself nicely.

The Little Red Mare, we missed. She went to slaughter.  ):  But we
started a fund that raised $600.  Thanks to everybody who donated!!

The NH Clyde mare, standing in muck with only moldy hay, underweight
and bleeding weepy exudate from a severe condition called CPL.  ):  She
has gone to the USERL in Indiana for proper care and a happy rest of
her life.

Daisy, pulled from the kill pen, gone to Elaine to be fostered, she is
doing very well, waiting for a good, permamnent home.  We think Elaine
has fallen in love and will be adopting.

McDoogle, pulled from the kill pen, adopted by Laurel, and living at the
same home as Bingham.  He's doing great!

Bigham, the little paint colt, grabbed at the last minute while pulling
the Belgians out of the kill pen.  He is now part of the IRIE program
(see links), and doing very well.

Hazel, bought by the meat mean at New Holland (PA), fostered in
NH, starved and neglected by the foster (while being over seen by a
NEER member)...she was repo-ed, and taken to GiddyUp Beth's
where she has completely recovered.  She has a new adoptive mom,
and is doing very well.

The BIG Mr, suffered at the same hands as Hazel, now fostered in
MA.
