Article on adoption:
If a woman named Cathy from CT (eastern) calls you looking to get a horse for a young girl for (insert sob story here)...check her out VERY carefully!! She talks a great line, promises a good home, and then will sell your horse to the meatman! It has been done. If you want more info, PLEASE ASK!!! We have an extensive list of 'bad people' to stay away from, if you really care about where your horse goes. And if we don't know, we will find out!

I know of a lady who is in desperate need to find a home for a beautiful 3 yr old mare. She is appy/perch/qh cross. She is only asking $600 or best offer... I am sure she would take $400. The horse is a sweetheart, in your pocket, she has been well loved and cared for but the lady has lost her job and is running low on funds. She is a beautiful gray with darker gray points and just a lover. The lady said that last week she did put a saddle on the mare for the first time and she did not react at all so then she got on her and she was led around with a lead rope and the horse just walked on like she had been doing this forever...

The HafMare... Pending.
The HafMare is in NH at a foster home, 5 years old, around 15H, beefy, and is said to both ride and drive, but we are not sure yet. She has been ridden a little, and is ok with it. Tracy, her foster mom, will start seeing what she can do once the weather gets better. She does NOT like to be alone, and will go through what she needs to, to be with pals. She does respect electric fence, as long as it is ON. She seems more Belgian than Haflinger, and although there are registration papers, broker papers are totally unreliable. (And NEER has a painfully strict NO BREEDING policy!!)
She is very sweet, and has come along since getting to NH. Since she was slaughterbound, we have no way of knowing what her past held, but she picks up her feet pretty well, and had a bridle path on arrival, she is easy to handle and load, and great with other horses, not dominant. She loves attention and to be fussed over, doesn't mind other animals (especially dogs), AND...has been ridden by a chicken. (:
From Tracy:

Please contact Beth for foster/adoption info... fatoldfarmwife@verizon.net
And Tracy for more direct questions... tracy@lacombeelectric.com
Adoption fee: $600. The HafMare will go with a NEER contract.
Rescued with the Slaughterbound 5...
The big girl is doing AWSOME! And she now has a name... 'Ange Noir' (French for Black Angel ...pronounced Ang (soft g) no-ahr) congrats to Janet who picked the name! She is healthy and happy and went through quarintine like a champ, no problems at all, thank god. I have started riding her and she knows all her basics and it is alot of fun to ride down the road on such a huge horse, everyone else looks so small, lol.

CEDAR OAKS RESCUE...Plymouth MA:
Very intelligent, 2 year old, a stocky QH build, very handsome, and is ready for training. He is approximately 14.3 hands, built like a tank, and is halterbroke. He has been a bit mouthy lately due to people hand feeding him treats, but he will make a wonderful 4H project, kids mount, or he is big enough for an adult. He has a great personality. He is awesome with other horses, and loves to be with other horses and people.
I would like to get a $500 adoption fee for him, which will be used 100% torward horse rescue.

Sarah... missgypsy007@aol.com
A year and a half ago, through NEER, there was a woman looking to give away two Morgans, a mother and son from New York.
Well, these are the two Morgans. I can not get a hold of her now Both of her phone numbers are disconnected. She decided to free lease the horses to me, but thought she might take them back in 4 years....Well, she was in the area a year ago and came and visited the horses. I have never heard from her again, but would like to keep it a free lease until I can find her. They are perfect for an intermediate rider looking for 2 trail horses. Mother is registered Morgan 9 years old, son is 6 years old and registered (I do not have their papers) Both are easy keepers and have the best ground manners, I have never had two safer horses on the ground. Under saddle they are fantastic with people who know what they are doing. I can lead children around on both. I need to find a new place where they can be under a free lease until we can find Linda, and then the person will probably be able to take over ownership. They have excellent bloodlines and are very pretty classic Morgans. They must be kept together...
Pics coming... Sarah... missgypsy007@aol.com

ALL NEER horses go with a legally binding contract. If you are selling, lending, leasing, borrowing, or giving a horse away without a contract, then you could well be contributing to that horse's slaughter!! If you need ANY help with a contract, PLEASE ASK!! If we don't have it, we can get it.
And PLEASE remember..."I want him/her for my daughter/grand daughter to ride."...is THE oldest line in the book!
PLEASE do your homework. Please find out who your giving or selling your horse to...so that we don't all have to be sad when the horse you loved, who you THOUGHT you were giving to someone good, ends up on the slaughterhouse floor.
Please.

JASMINE
Jasmine is a 14-year-old standardbred mare. She has been started under saddle, but is still green and needs someone to further her training. Good for farrier, cross ties, grooms. Extremely comfortable to ride.
PANCHO
Pancho is a 9-year-old quarter horse gelding. Pancho has been evaluated and has been ridden english and western, but does not neck rein. He is completely dead broke. Nothing scares him. He can be very lazy at times when being ridden. He needs A LOT of leg. We have walked him out on the trail with another person and he seemed fine, not spooky. Amazing for grooming, tacking, bathing, clipping, cross tying. Will need a stronger rider, he is safe and sane, however does test beginners. Adoption fee varies for each horse depending on rideabilty and training level. Stabled at Chippaway Stables.
CISCO
Cisco is a 11-year-old chestnut quarter horse gelding. (Recently castrated.) He has been ridden english while here but may know western. Knows walk, trot, canter. When Cisco came to us, he was very head-shy and people-shy. He has since made a huge turn around and loves attention from us. We have worked on desensitizing him and he has come right around. Okay for bathing, grooming, vet. Adoption fee varies for each horse depending on rideabilty and training level. CURRENTLY stabled at Chippaway Stables.
TEAGUE

Donkeys and mules available for adoption though Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue: |
| Gabe and Hector |
|
Gabe is a white gelding donkey with a small black spot on one side of his neck. He is approximately 5 years old. He came to us in very poor condition. His coat is very moth eaten looking, most likely from being bitten by other animals. He has many scrapes and scabs all in various stages of healing. He is personable and sweet. He was nervous but well behaved for the trimmer. He is approximately 46" tall.
Hector is a white gelding donkey. He is approximately 4 years old He came to us in the same condition as Gabe. He is a shy and somewhat nervous donkey, although in the few weeks that he has been here he has become a lot less worried about life. I think he will be fine once he has some one on one attention. He enjoys being groomed. We did not trim his feet as he was too nervous. The trimmer was here the morning after they arrived. He is approximately 48" tall. Gabe and Hector are very closely bonded, so need to go together. They would make a great matched pair for driving. |

She is a quiet, reserved donkey. She is a bit shy but with one on one handling she will likely blossom quickly. She is approximately 46" tall. Her feet are in good shape and she is well behaved for the trimmer. |

| Ida May |
|
Ida May is a brown donkey jenny, approximately 3 years old. She is very sweet and loves to be groomed and leans into you for hugs. She is a quiet, gentle donkey. She came in with Gabe and Hector and her coat is rough and worn in parts, we think from the trailer ride. She is already starting to grow new coat and it has a lovely shine to it. She is a dainty jenny approximately 44" tall. |

Photos of Ida May will be coming soon! |
Misty is available for adoption to an approved home, she has been through a LOT!

One of those husbands who sneak out to the horses when they think you're not looking!
Misty’s Story
Misty is a beautiful TB mare who raced as a youngster and did quite well. She then retired to the breeder's farm and became a broodmare for the next 10+ years. She was not ridden and didn't have a back up career. When they no longer had use for her they gave her away. This is where Twin Lights Farm comes in. We took her and her pasture mate, another older TB broodmare, in. The pasture mate was no longer breed-able and was placed in a good home and is now a beloved trail horse. This was also the plan for Misty.
She left Twin Lights Farm in May of 2007 on her way to what we thought was to be a new life of being a riding horse for a teenager in need of a horse. There was never any feedback from the people who took Misty.
On July 29, 2007, we received an e-mail from a stranger stating that they had seen Misty listed on a web site of horses at risk of going to slaughter ( http://www.ac4h.com/brokerownedhorses.htm ).

Misty was bought/rescued by NEER, and is now safely home again with Mary. She will be adopted out to a good home, with a contract.
Thallene Mist (aka Misty), 18 yrs old, Dk Bay tb mare, 16.3H, sound and sane, has no vices, no health issues, easy to handle, turns out with others, trailers easy, good for vet and farrier, not hot, but not a dead head either, stands well to be tacked up, lunges quietly, has been started under saddle but needs experienced rider to finish her training.
Adoption fee: $1,000. ($750 for the New Holland broker, $50 for coggins and health cert, and $200. for transport back to MA.)

Misty's ANGEL, Mark ...has been working with her to give her a solid start
in the basics. See them on the ANGEL page. (:

Studly is a gorgeous 15.3 hand chestnut quarter horse gelding and is 13 years old. He has a lameness in his right front which is leaving him with an innability to canter and jump. He is really sweet and dead quiet. In his past he has won many competitions and took his rider from walk/trot up to the pre childrens. A great home is a must. Goes on the buckle and in a nice frame. Walk/Trot only. He was rescued from a slaughter house when he was 2 years old and brought to the Farmington Polo Club. From there, he was trained and put into the schooling program and used for lessons. I have been riding him for 4 years and have owned him for 2.

I have a 2007 AHA/NSH weanling (registered with the Arabian Horse Association but also eligible for registration with the National Show Horse Registry). Chestnut, white blaze, may grey out but I'm not sure. Large for a youngster and a very curious personality. His lineage is pretty impressive. Sire
is *Stanislav, a Russian Arab from the *AAF Absolut and *Statistic lines. His dam is by Toi Soldier, IAHA Breeders' Sweepstakes & NSH Nominated Sire. He's a delight, he's just not the breed/cross for me.

Randi... randi.segatore@umassmed.edu

Calvin is an English-riding horse. 15.3h Thoroughbred Gelding. 18 years olds. Great barn manners and field manners. Trailers. Would be an excellent companion horse. Sound. No lameness issues. Free to a good home. Can be ridden by experienced rider. Has all his shots and an updated Coggins sheet. Quite possibly able to donate blanket and halter with Calvin. Interested, please contact Vincent at tres115@aol.com or at 781-575-2298.

I've recently been transferred down South and can not take my two geldings with me. One is a registered Morgan, the other an Appaloosa. Both are older. The Morgan is 20, the Appy is older, exact age unknown. I'd like to place them out for adoption or find a good home for them. Is this something you can help with? Both are broke and can be ridden, although they will need some work as it has been several years since they have been ridden regularly. The Morgan goes English and had formal dressage training about 10 years ago. The Appy goes Western...

Jamie... jlbour@gmail.com
17 year old retired OTTB. He is very very sweet, and totally rideable. He is and has not been abused, and is fat and happy. He is healthy, and is up to date on shots and coggins. His feet are perfect, and he is shod on the front only.
I got him about 2 years ago, and he is 17.2. He taped out at just about 925 pounds. He is now just about 1300. He jumps, and does dressage. Basically just a perfect horse. He is sweet as pie on the ground. He does need an experienced rider, because he is what he is..a headstrong thoroughbred.
