NEER was started in '05 when I saw a need to network all the people interested in helping horses. I saw that rescues weren't talking to each other, and didn't have the time to solicit all that they needed from the many that are happy to help. I don't have the land to save them all, and my husband won't let me spend the retirement money. So instead, I started the NEER board and got my friends involved, it has grown into 700+ members since then, and we have done a great deal to help many horses, with the help of everybody that we can find.
I personally live in coastal RI, but the NEER peeps are all over New England, including those below, who are both the NEER core, and fosters for NEER. My place is not a 'facility', and I am not looking for any credit...I am very back yard, and just want to save horses.
Thanks to everybody who has helped, we have really made a difference... (:

Welcome to www.RIDART.org – the team's on-line home!
The Rhode Island Disaster Animal Response Team (RIDART) is a public/private/volunteer partnership to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies affecting animals in Rhode Island. Those animals include large and small domestic animals as well as wildlife. The emergencies they could face range from storms or floods to fires and oil spills.
The team is composed of volunteers who work under the direction of the RI State Veterinarian. Training – free to team members – emphasizes safe handling of animals, pet first aid, effective rescuing, sheltering, and reuniting pets with their owners. The team helps assure that Rhode Islanders are as ready as possible to make the best of bad situations.
#1 Eville Minion /MA Director Member of: Mary Martin has been around horses since she was a wee girl, she knows a LOT about horses, and her unassuming character gets her everywhere with people that would otherwise be disinterested in the cause. Mary started out being just a 'helper', but quickly became an invaluable part of NEER, taking on the northeast corner of MA, overseeing fosters, getting supplies donated, advertising, and getting the press involved...among many other things.

Mary deserves a gold star for her efforts, and for all of the crap that she has to put up with... the abuse, the lies, all the physical labor that she should not have been doing, the constant driving around, the untruths that people perpetuate, the manipulations, and the chronic annoyance! This is not an easy job!!

Jill Chrupcala...
Foster/Quarantine/Rescuer

Jill has been quarantining and fostering horses for NEER since '07. She has gone way above and beyond to help! She takes in 'unwanted' horses (ours, her own, and AC4H's), fixes them up, and then either helps us to place them or places them herself. Jill has provided us an invaluable service, and for that, she gets a big gold star!!! (Not as big as Mary's, but almost:)
